"I'll Never Get Hired"

Failure, something we've all experienced one way or another whether it's through starting a new business, accomplishing personal goals, relationships or making a career switch. It's frustrating, knowing that you gave it your all to get further in life. It reminds me of the time when I didn't get hired for a job that I really wanted.

A few months ago I applied for an associate email developer position at a marketing agency. Two days later, I had my first interview which was a phone interview. The next day, I get a notification in my inbox indicating that I proceeded to the 2nd round of the interview. It consisted of a coding challenge which I had 48 hours to complete. I sumbmitted it on a Friday. The following week I get a call stating that I've been invited to the final round of the interview process. It was a zoom video chat with 4 senior email developers. Once the video interview concluded, they told I would hear back from them to know if I would get the job or not. As weeks went by, it became quite obvious that I didn't get the job. I knew deep down that I didn't get the job, yet I still made attempts to contact the agency to see where I stood. After coming to terms with the outcome, I became slightly depressed for almost 2 weeks. I was upset because I thought I was an absolute shoe-in.

In conclusion, there's a few things I learned and realized from that situation. First, there's no such thing as the perfect candidate. Second, I took a good look at my portfolio and asked myself "Would I hire me?" That was my way of putting myself in the employer's shoes and realizing that I needed to level up my portfolio and skills. Heck, I'm suprised that I even made through the entire interview process. Next, I had to pause and realize that despite not getting hired by that agency, just being able to go through all three rounds of the interview was a win in it of itself. This meant I was skilled enough to be considered for the position. Last but not least, I had to adopt the abundant mindset and tell myself that for every job that rejects me, 5 more would be happy to welcome me to there team. So for all you devs out there looking to get hired, be it email dev, frontend, backend or fullstack keep learning, keep growing and keep GOING.

"The Ultimate Enemy"

Let me tell you a little story about a legendary email developer who was able to overcome an enemy so powerful that it could wipe out 50% of all life in the digital multiverse. Eons ago, it has been foretold and prophesized throughout the cosmos that a legendary being of tremendous cosmic and technological power would come to save the multiverse from the Outlook, a dark and malevolent entity whose power is unmatched and unchallenged, who seeks to devour the digital multiverse. Hailing from the Quantam realm, a being by the name of Izrael, was revealed to be the only known being in exsistence who has the power to defeat the Outlook.

Any being that tried to render their email would be trapped in the Outlook's realm. Izrael decided to venture into the necro dimension to craft the ultimate weapon that could defeat the entity. After a prolonged and fierce battle of apocalyptic proportions, Izrael used the power of the weapon he crafted to cast a powerful, unbreakable spell, thus delivering the killing blow to the Outlook. With the defeat of the dark entity, order was restored to the digital multiverse.

Well I hope you enjoyed that short little story. Now on a more serious note, Microsoft Outlook is the biggest opposition an email developer will face when coding and testing emails. Luckily, there's a reliable and effective method to solve that problem. Click the link above in the second paragraph to see the solution.

"No experience???!!!"

You've just finish building portfolio and learned all the fundamental skills to become a job ready email developer. Now you're all ready to hit the ground running, that is until the employer asks "Do you have any previous relavant experience?" All of the sudden you're frozen in ice like Captain America was for 70 years.

No worries because I am about to defrost your anxiety with some hope. There are freelance sites such as Upwork, Fivver, Freelancer and many more that you can visit to get some real world experience. Now the obvious question one would ask is "No one is willing to pay me to work. What do I do?" Well my response to that question would be to visit catchafire.org, an online platform where you can find non-profit organizations who are looking volunteers on some of their projects. Projects such as creating email templates. That's kind of how I was able to gain real world professional experience. Now you can do the same.

"How And Where Can I Learn?"

There are a plethora of ways and resources that an individual can utilize to learn how to code. If you're just starting and don't want drain your life savings on 4 year colleges or 6-8 month bootcamps, then I am going to recommend some of the best free to low budget and legit resources you can use.

The first one is w3schools. It's a site that shows you how to code step by step and how to utilize the syntax of each language. w3schools teaches languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Python, etc. The next resource I strongly recommend is Jasheletechtv She runs a youtube channel geared towards software development. She created a series on her channel called CODE MUSIC CHILL SERIES where she teaches a live coding session while playing some cool music. Jashele also has a few videos that cover email development, so you'll definitely want to subscribe to her. Last but not least, to anyone wanting to learn how to code for extremely affordable prices and get maximum results, codingphase is definitely the go to guide. It is owned and ran by Joe Santos where he teaches everything from email development, wordpress theme development, shopify theme development, Reactjs and much more.
